A quick guide to living in Aquitaine
Aquitaine is the largest region of France famous for its diversity of landscapes, culture, heritage and not forgetting food and wine. Its coastline stretches for 200kms from the Girond estuary down to the Spanish border with white sandy beaches which in summer seem almost empty compared with those on the Mediterranean coast. These beaches are often flanked by large expanses of Pine Forest, the two main coastal resorts are Biarritz and Arcachon. Aquitaine is also popular with visitors to the Pyrenees mountains which rise in the Southern part of the region.
Bordeaux has some world famous vineyards producing wines such as Medoc and St Emilion.
The Dordogne region - or Perigord as the French like to say – is very popular with British buyers. There are some great views, castles and, of course, it is a painters paradise! Perigueux is renowned for its domed cathedral and Bergerac a famous centre of wine.
